  A basic human need is the ability to enjoy peace and security, educational, mental and social areas. The main purpose of the consulting and advising center is to facilitate personal and mental development to achieve and improve social maturity. Various factors are have a role in people's personal, family, academic, job, and interpersonal problems.

  Counseling addresses three basic issues: 1- prevention from psychological and social problems and illnesses 2- treatment and improvement of psychological problems 3- Improving our recognition and belief about our talents and capabilities.

  Who is a consultant: a consultant is a person who has studied in areas of mental health and can help clients after evaluating them. He/she understands human psychology, and is committed to his/her professional principles and high human and ethical values.

  What is consulting: consulting is a face to face relationship between one expert person and client, or clients in which consultants help by means of their scientific, knowledge , skill and capabilities to better understand problems and situations. Consultants use their abilities, talents, and facilities in the best way when faced with tough situations. The results not only assist clients, but help their own personal and social growth.

  The center for consulting and psychological services in Iran University of Science and Technology, with a mission to fulfill the above stated goals, offers the following services to students , staffs and professors:

  1- treatment unit: this unit facilitates personal development , problem solving and treatment of psychological disorders and illnesses

  **consulting and psychotherapy: this counseling helps clients address their problems face to face

  **guidance and educational consulting: this counseling assists people interested to learn proper ways of education, or change their majors

  **religious and marital guidance counseling: this counseling assists marriage initiation related issues and religious and ideological matters. Communication skills and recognition of individual differences are key issues addressed in this form of counseling.

  **Family Counseling: this counseling assists people with family struggles, including divorce.

  **Job consulting: this unit assists clients in work related matters, including employment, increased job satisfaction, and ability to find a suitable work environment that meets a client's talents, capabilities, desire and personality.

  **Crisis consulting: individuals suffering from mental- social crisis can use this counseling.

  **Psychotherapy and personal consulting: individuals suffering from adjustment issues, self consciousness, depression , obsession , and anxiety can use this kind of counseling

  **Group Counseling: This office provides counseling for people with similar problems in a group setting.

  2- Psychotherapy unit: This office assists students identify their various intelligence and talents through evaluation and personality tests.

  3- Education unit: This office offers a two credit course on life and family management skills. It was initiated in 2011-12 by professors and experts from the consulting center. This course is highly popular among students, who deem it necessary.

  4- Social work unit: This office evaluates students' family, dormitory, academic, and work related situations, and assists in removing difficulties.

  5- Dormitory consulting : To increase counseling availability to students who find it difficult to visit the consulting center, we have placed counseling services across the dormitories.
